French National Assembly (during French EU Presidency)

You probably have seen some photos showing that the Eiffel Tower had turned blue for French EU presidency. The French National Assembly(Assemblée Nationale) also had a video projected on its facade during the period. Tonight, France is giving away its Presidency (1st July 2008 - 31st December 2008), and is passing it on to the Czech Republic (each member of the EU has the right to a 6 month presidency).

When Debbie Harry Meets Johnny Ramone

Kata Tjuta (Mount Olga or The Olgas), Northern Territory, central Australia

This photo shows Kata Tjuta (also known as Mount Olga or The Olgas) located in the southern part of the Northern Territory, central Australia. The Olgas have 36 domes, composed of conglomerate, a sedimentary rock consisting of cobbles and boulders of varying rock types including granite and basalt, cemented by a matrix of sandstones. The highest point, Mount Olga, is 1066 m above sea level, or approximately 546 m above the surrounding plain (i.e 203 m higher than the more famous Uluru). You can also see a superb photo showing a panorama of Kata Tjuta (which cover an area of 22 km²) as seen from its viewing platform in the middle of the day on following Wikipedia Kata Tjuta page.

Giraffe, Etosha National Park, Namibia

The Giraffe (Giraffa camelopardalis) is an African even-toed ungulate mammal, the tallest of all land-living animal species, and the largest ruminant. Males can be 4.8 to 5.5 metres tall and weigh up to 1,700 kilograms. Females are generally slightly shorter, and weigh less than the males do.
The giraffe is related to deer and cattle, but is placed in a separate family, the Giraffidae, consisting only of the giraffe and its closest relative, the okapi. Its range extends from Chad to South Africa.
Giraffes can inhabit savannas, grasslands, or open woodlands. They prefer areas enriched with acacia growth. They drink large quantities of water and, as a result, they can spend long periods of time in dry, arid areas. When searching for more food they will venture into areas with denser foliage.

Somerset House, London

This is a photo of Somerset House, a large building situated on the south side of the Strand in central London, overlooking the River Thames, just east of Waterloo Bridge. The central block of the Neoclassical building, the outstanding project of the archistect Sir William Chambers, dates from 1776–96. It was extended by classical Victorian wings to north and south. La Couvertoirade, Aveyron, France

These photos were taken in La Couvertoirade, on the Larzac plateau, in the Aveyron department in France.

This well-preserved fortified town was owned by the Knights Templar, under orders from the Commandery of Sainte-Eulalie, from the 12th century. The Templars built the fortress there during the 12th and 13th centuries; its two upper floors have since been removed. Following their dissolution in 1312, the Templars' property in the causses was taken by the Knights of St. John of Jerusalem who were responsible for building the curtain wall at La Couvertoirade in about 1450.
Like other Larzac villages, the population fell rapidly in the 19th century, to as few as 362 by 1880. Today, it is largely inhabited by craftsmen working with enamel, pottery, weaving and similar crafts. See also La Couvertoirade website.
